8th February Where the snow lay round about, Deep and crisp and even
When the telephone rang at 7.45am this morning I had an inkling that all was not well at Blunsdon.
And so it proved to be. The heavy overnight snowfall in North Wiltshire had wiped out any chance of any reasonable work at the track and Gerald was calling the whole thing off.
Frankly I was not dismayed by this news - the roads in and around Malmesbury were treacherous and the prospect of a journey to Blunsdon did not fill me with enthusiasm.
Hopefully the tyre packing that we started last week will have sealed the surface and will prevent too
much water from seeping down into the track. If we do get seepage then the top inch or so will soon turn into a messy slush and much of the good work will have been undone.
I leave you with this lighthearted view of Punch and Gerald discussing the weather and prospects for further work.
As I write this more snow is falling and the weather forecast for the area is talking about plummeting temperatures overnight and dangerously icy road conditions tomorrow.
With any luck we'll be back on the track on Saturday when we were hoping to get the kick boards painted and the white line excavated (it has become buried in places over the winter).
