Having just watched the wonderful spectacle that was the Somerset versus Kings Lynn Sky match from the Premier League it is sad to have to report the ugly side of humanity ... the mindless vandalism that has been inflicted upon Armadale. In this Edinblog Ian Hawkins is very restrained in his reporting ... I would have been chewing the keyboard!
An eventful time for Edinburgh speedway. We had two visits from the local low-life on Sunday 11th and Tuesday 14th April. On Sunday the contented their sick little minds with smashing the bowser and tractor windscreens and trashing the Speedway office. More serious damage was done on Tuesday when the resourceful little blighters broke into Doc Bridgett's cabin and removed an extension lead and angle grinder which they used to cut the padlock of the track equipment container and remove some tools.
They also got our fire extinguishers which they proceeded to fire off inside the cabs of the tractors. They then set off on a wrecking spree, driving tractors through the speedway and dog track fences and damaging graders and more track equipment while doing it. Happily they were not very bright little boys because they did all this in broad daylight and following a phone call from one of our neighbours the police caught them.
Returning to the speedway our meeting on Friday against the Workington Comets was rather easier than we thought it would be, the Monbarchs winning comfortably against a strong side with three very good heat leaders. Andrew Tully excelled with a flawless 15 point maximum , passing top riders with ease, and all the other team members contributing, We were further honoured by a visit from a legend of Scottish speedway, Steve Lawson who was mechanicing for his son Richard, and also from former Monarch Rusty Harrison who was spanner man for Kev Doolan
Our next weeks meeting was against the Bandits of Berwick who were well served by Pepe Franc riding an extremely shiny JRM and by a marvellous performance from Paul Clews including a tremendous hard and fair race against Ryan Fisher while on a TR Again the home side all scored well.
The next Speedway Museum open days will be on Sunday 26th July and 27th September from 10.00 to 14.30. As the owner is somewhatreluctant to publicise his site too widely for obvious reasons, I will not post any detail on the web but can give directions if required.
Best regards
Ian
Let's all hope that the powers that be treat the little criminals who perpetrated the vandalism with then full force of the law ... although my gut feeling is that it will be a "don't be such a naughty boy again" type response.
Ah well, enough of this negativity - time to watch some real speedway again rather that the insipid "follow my leader" fodder that we were served on Saturday night from Prague. Back to the Rebels and the Oak Tree Arena!
