The excellent SpeedwayPlus website has a programme maker for those of us who either cannot get to a match but like to keep a programme going whilst watching Sky or who are too tight to buy a programme.
But I haven't found one to help with the problem of: a). not having a GP programme and b). not having a copy of Speedway Star.
The challenge was, therefore, to produce a spreadsheet to replicate the full 2007 specification Grand Prix programme.
Once the spreadsheet has been downloaded (it's an Excel spreadsheet) details such as the date and venue can be typed in.
The draw for rider numbers is usually published on the SpeedwayTV website some time before the GP. Riders names can now be added.
The spreadsheet can simply be printed out and then filled in manually. However, the totals columns are all automatically updated if you fill the programme in on the computer.
At the end of the spreadsheet you can see exactly how your favourite rider is doing in comparison with others not only in terms of their overall score but also how they rank in the field.
Want to know if anyone has an advantage from a gate position?
The spreadsheet will carry out an analysis as to which gate is working best throughout the evening up until the semi final stage. A glimpse at the example for the Polish GP shows that Tomasz Gollob was quite right in choosing the Yellow gate - it had averaged 2 points per ride during the main event. Kasprzak did surprisingly well considering he started from the unfavourable gate 2 (Blue).
